The Importance of Healthy Meal Plans
Proper nutrition is of the utmost importance to our bodies and should never be taken lightly. The foods we eat provide the energy sources we need to function. No different than a car, our bodies require daily fuel to operate properly. The better the fuel, the more efficiently our body operates.
Do you ever think about the things you eat? How often you eat or why you are eating? How healthy is your family? Do you know the difference between proper nutrition for young athletes and a healthy diet for teenagers? Are your children eating right? More often than not, your nutritional knowledge affects not just your own eating habits, but those of your loved ones as well. Do you provide you and your family with a variety of healthy meal plans or a balanced healthy diet?

Does this really matter as long as you eat, you ask? YES! The importance of healthy meal plans and good nutrition cannot be overstated! Our body requires various forms or nutrients know as carbohydrates, protein and yes even fats to operate optimally. Believe it or not, your body prefers fats! Does that mean the high fat diet is the way to go? No! What about the low-fat diets out there today? Nope! How about no “DIET”! How about just good, simple nutrition. This is the key.
How do You Maintain a Healthy Diet
Learn, learn, learn! It really isn’t all that complicated once you drown out all the “noise” being supplied from the marketing surrounding this “diet” and that “diet”. Using a healthy food pyramid provides your body with energy, raw materials for bodily functioning and vitamins and minerals that provide a whole array of benefits. Good nutrition will also provide phytochemicals and antioxidants that will help keep you feeling young, looking great, and perhaps even disease-free. In reverse, a bad diet will give you too many or too few calories, not enough vitamins and minerals, and will actually make you need more of the antioxidants that you aren’t getting.
Developing the habit of eating healthy is not as confusing, difficult or restrictive as you might imagine. Begin to focus on just a few things and you could be well on your way to maintaining a healthy diet. Eating a wide variety of foods is a must! Consume fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes as they are high in complex carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, low in fat, and free of cholesterol. Choose low-fat dairy products, lean meat and poultry, and fish as often as you can.
Additionally, always try to maintain a balance between calorie intake and calorie expenditure! Eating more than you body needs or can utilize leads to weight gain, plain and simple. Obviously, the more active you are, the more you can eat and still maintain such a balance.

As with almost everything in life, moderation is key. There is no need for counting points or giving yourself only two “proteins” a day! Remember, as long as your overall diet is balanced and rich in nutrients and fiber, there is nothing wrong with occasionally having pizza, a cheeseburger or other personal favorites. Just be sure to limit how frequently you eat such foods, and try to eat smaller portions of them than you have in the past.
Eating a balanced healthy diet really doesn’t have to be unpleasant or overly difficult! Now that you have a starting point for how you can maintain a healthy diet and why your body needs food, the next step is to learn a little more about the details or YOUR individual dietary needs including exactly what your carbohydrate, fat and protein requirements are, and how to ease into a lifestyle of good nutrition, making it a seamless transition that you will come to enjoy, instead of yet another “fad diet”!
