Portion Control

Over the past month or so we have shared quite a few ideas and tips on proper nutritional habits that can assist in your weight management goals. Things such as water intake, carbohydrate timing, eating smaller, more frequent meals, etc. have been discussed and with very good reason. Today, however, we are going to discuss what may be the king of weight management over the long-haul, knowing YOUR portion sizes.

Knowing which foods to eat or how often, while certainly important, would all go for not, if you were eating either too little or too much, right? Of course it would! Knowing you can eat protein and should limit carbs to some extent, doesn’t mean that you should only eat chicken, eggs and turkey and skip the rice, breads and veggies altogether. How much than? Well that is absolutely an individual question based on the individual and their goals, but one thing that goes a very long way to helping to establish a starting point and making progress over time, is understanding portion sizes.

For this reason, we are providing the following chart, as it has been proven, time and again, visual references make this that much easier to adhere to.  Use this chart as your means of determining what you are currently eating and making the necessary adjustments from there. If you are one of the lucky ones and your goal is weight gain, increase portion sizes little by little and track your progress. If you goal is to rid yourself of some of that extra unwanted weight, reduce your portion sizes meal by meal and watch what happens to your body.

As previously discussed, please remember, these changes do not happen overnight!

Start time, meals, soup, fruit salad, so that when the main meal is served, you feel like eating much. Eating the right foods is not enough to make you feel full, but also to ensure that your metabolism is running at its maximum potential.
